Taking the Fight for Equality to Capitol Hill:

NFB of Pennsylvania at the 2025 Washington Seminar

Washington, D.C. — 2025

In early February, more than a dozen members of the National Federation of the Blind of Pennsylvania traveled to our nation’s capital to make sure the voices of blind Pennsylvanians were heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill.

At the 2025 Washington Seminar, they met with Pennsylvania’s representatives and senators to protect the rights of blind Americans and push forward policy that ensures independence, accessibility, and equal opportunity.

🏛️ What We’re Fighting For

The delegation focused on keeping vital laws like the Americans with Disabilities Act strong, while spotlighting three urgent legislative priorities for 2025:

1. Websites and Software Applications Accessibility Act

Why it matters:
Access to digital tools is essential for education, employment, healthcare, and everyday life. This legislation would require that websites and software be designed to work with nonvisual access technology, ensuring blind people can fully engage with the world—online and off.

2. Medical Device Nonvisual Accessibility Act

Why it matters:
From insulin pumps to blood pressure monitors, medical devices must be independently usable by blind individuals. This bill would make accessibility a standard, not an afterthought, so people can manage their health without barriers or sighted assistance.

3. Blind Americans Return to Work Act

Why it matters:
Blind Americans should be able to pursue careers without facing financial punishment. This bill would remove outdated restrictions and work disincentives that trap people in poverty and limit independence. Work should pay off—for everyone.

💬 Why It Matters

This advocacy isn’t theoretical—it’s personal.

It’s about applying for a job without hitting a digital wall.
It’s about managing your health without relying on someone else.
It’s about working hard without risking the support you still need.

The message from Pennsylvania’s delegation was clear:

We’re not asking for special treatment—we’re demanding equal access.

👁️ The Bigger Picture

The 2025 Washington Seminar served as a powerful reminder:
Blind Americans are not invisible.
We are voters. We are professionals. We are citizens.
And we’re watching.

Follow our journey. Support the movement. Help build a future where accessibility is the norm—not the exception.
